Phillipines Typhoon : Message from the Chairman Dr Pieter Verhoek

"Welcome all FASAVA members to first e-zine newsletter, which we hope will the first of many. This has been the result of the hard work of your Executive since the General Assembly in Auckland 2013.

At the time of writing The Philippines, is recovering from a massive typhoon. Our thoughts and prayers go out to not only our colleagues in The Philippines, but also to all the people affected by the typhoon. May you all strive to get through this tragedy as best as possible.

Following the very successful WSAVA/FASAVA congress in beautiful Auckland 2013, the executive has met again in Beijing in September 2013. There have been several developments.


 
 

WE ARE PLEASE TO ANNOUNCE THE FOLLOWING EXCITING NEWS!

FASAVA and Hill's Partnership to Veterinary Professional Development

The Federation of Asian Small Animal Association (FASAVA) and Hill's Pet Nutrition have entered an exclusive partnership to promote the knowledge and professional development of veterinary medicine.

A key objective of the partnership is to facilitate learning and professional development for companion animal practitioners, as well as assist member associations create and grow their Continuing Education and Professional Development programs.

The initial plan includes providing speakers to support countries where these programs are not yet established.

The goal is to provide practitioners with practical, relevant and inspiring Continuing Education and Professional Development, which are essential to their clinical practice.

FASAVA and Hill's envisage efforts in:

  1. Increasing knowledge of veterinary science and established professional practice, including clinical nutrition and its application to veterinary medicine
  2. Encouraging veterinarians to learn and apply the knowledge in the management of pet diseases
  3. Providing Continuing Education opportunities to veterinarians to improve their expertise in pet health care
  4. Preparing veterinarians to effectively educate their clients on preventive pet care and disease management.

One key activity of the partnership will be significant support to the FASAVA Congress in Beijing in May 2014. This includes providing world class speakers to FASAVA's Scientific Program, in collaboration with WSAVA's Continuing Education effort.

FASAVA represents veterinary communities from Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, The Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Thailand. Hill's Pet Nutrition has more than 60 years of commitment to pet nutrition and well-being with its mission to help enrich and lengthen the special relationships between people and their pets.

FASAVA - Hills Clinic of the Year Award (Australasia region)

As part of our FASAVA and Hills Pet Nutrition partnership we are pleased to announce a new award;

The FASAVA- Hills Award Practice of the Year in the Asia Region

FASAVA Executive is looking for nominees for this prestigious Award.
Can you please have nominations to the Secretary Dr Gopinathan Mutiara by January 31 2014. Please detail in less than 1000 words why this practice deserves this Award.

Objective
The objective is to recognize the outstanding veterinary practice in promoting companion animal healthcare through embracing standard of care aimed to help enrich and lengthen the special relationships between people and their pets

Criteria of Nominees

  1. Be a companion animal practitioner
  2. Show special sensitivity to the Family-Pet-Veterinary bond as evidence through work with grieving, disabled, elderly and thorough care of animals when sick or injured
  3. Held in high regard by veterinary community for integrity and professional practice
  4. Promotes pet nutrition as a means to achieve the special human/pet relationship

Details of the Award

  1. To be presented during the FASAVA Annual Conference
  2. Total value $US5000
  3. Includes:
  • Certificate of Award
  • Gift package for the next FASAVA Congress
  • A Cheque for the amount remaining from the total prize once payment has been made for the winner to attend the next FASAVA congress [e.g. if it costs $US2000 for the award winner to attend the next FASAVA Congress including flights and accommodation and registration the cheque will be in the amount of $US3000]
